10 Fun Ideas for your Wedding

Wedding receptions are all the same. Most people seem to think that’s the case. Most people believe that a wedding reception is all about drinking, dancing, and eating. That’s it. Oh sure that’s quite often the case but there are some very original thinkers out there and some people would rather spice things up a bit and do something out of the ordinary at their wedding. Here are 10 ideas you may choose to use or not use at your wedding this year!

1. Photo Booths – The photo booth at a wedding is one of the few places that will be more and more fun as the night goes on. Especially if your guests are drinking! In the early part of the evening everyone is more reserved and normal. They may pop in there, take a nice photo and that’s the end of it. Buy later on as the guests start to loosen up and get a little rowdy the photo booth will be hoppin’! 1 person, 3 people, 8 people, as many as will fit might try to squeeze into your photo booth. In the end the bride and groom are going to have some hillarious pictures to look at and lots of great memories will be made.

2. Blindfolds - Here’s the game. You blindfold the groom. A bunch of guests and the bride are sitting someplace in front of him on the dance floor. The groom has to then go around the whole group and find his bride while blindfolded. If he finds her he gets to kiss her! However he has to kiss her blindfolded too! So as you can expect it makes for some wild and very funny moments if he’s wrong.

3. Sing for the kiss! - You know the old clink the glasses and the bride and groom will kiss. Instead you have to stand up and sing a song with the word love in it in some way shape or form and then the bride and groom will kiss. This starts out slow but it’s pretty funny if you have a fun crowd. It also is usually appreciated by the venue because it saves them on chipped glasses. I’ve seen a disney themed wedding ask that you sing a disney song for the kiss.

4. A Candy Bar Station - Basically it’s just like a dessert bar but instead it’s just loaded with little bite size candy bars. If you’re a candy lover this will be a hit. Kids love this one too!

5. An Ice Sculpture Martini Fountain (Ice Luge) – It’s basically a big ice sculpture with a tube in the middle. A bar tender then makes your martini and pours it into the tube at the top. The liquid gets chilled on the way down and ends up in your martini glass. If you’re crowd is seriously into Martini’s this is the thing for you!

6. Chocolate Fountain - Enough said! Chocolate fountains are awesome! And most people love chocolate! That’s it. You don’t need to know more! haha.

7. Late night pizza bar – If you’re wedding is going to be a late one and the booze is flowing you might want to consider having a midnight snack before the wedding ends. Why not throw out a few large pies? Pizza lovers at the wedding will love it and your guests will not leave on just booze alone!

8. A Table Magician – Yeah i know it’ corny but if the guy is good and has a good sense of humor he will amaze your friends while making them laugh. Laughing equals having a good time. It’s original and it’s different. Go for it!

9. Bubbles – This one depends on the venue you are having your reception at. However if they are okay with it why not welcome your guests to your reception in a sea of little bubbles. It’s fun, it’s easy, and it doesn’t cost that much to pull off.

10. Karaoke – So you think you can sing eh? Great! Why not sing at your wedding? A lot of DJ’s these days have karaoke as an option for their wedding DJ package. Why not have an hour of karaoke! This is especially fun later in the evening when the guests have gotten revved up and are ready to have fun. There’s a reason why karaoke is still being done in bars today. It’s fun! For most people anyways. :)

5 Myths about Wedding DJs

Here’s a list of 5 myths about wedding DJs you may have thought of and the real truth that goes along with them.

Myth #1 – All a DJ does is play music and party at your wedding.
Truth – A good DJ does so much more than play music. Prior to the wedding a good DJ will sit down with the bride and groom and talk to them about their vision of what their wedding reception should be. Then the DJ will gather as much information from the bride and groom as he can so he can be as informed as possible when choosing music and activities for the wedding. A good DJ will offer the bride and groom choices for music and for his involvement in the wedding. It’s your day so you should have a say in what is played and what is not played. A good DJ will then play a timeline for the day and verify it with you prior to the start of the wedding. Then on the day of the wedding the DJ is like a second wedding coordinator. He can help to keep things on schedule and keep the wedding reception flowing along as it should be. And yes a DJ will also Play music. :)

Myth #2 – An ipod is just as good as having a DJ.
Truth – An ipod will play music and that’s it. And somebody still has to run the ipod! Ipods don’t take requests, Ipods don’t announce when it’s time to the best to make his toast or when it’s time for the bouquet toss. An ipod is only as good as the music you put in it. An ipod is just that an ipod. On the most important day of your life DON’T leave your guests entertainment to an IPOD!

Myth #3 – The DJ will just know what i want from experience
Truth – Even the most experienced DJ can’t read your mind. If you want something put it in writing and make sure your DJ knows it.

Myth #4 – All DJ’s can be wedding DJ’s and will give you the same type of service.
Truth – Not true! Some DJ’s are wedding DJ’s an some are not. When interviewing potential DJ candidates you should always try to find out if they have any previous wedding DJ experience. Ask for references, talk to people who have have used their service in the past.

Myth #5 – All DJ’s have state of the art equipment.
Truth – Not always true. Some DJ’s may have one set of state of the art equipment and then a backup set that’s either a little smaller or a little older. So depending on how how important that is to you, you may want to ask to see the equipment prior to the wedding. In all honesty it may not be that big of a deal for your wedding DJ to have the lastest state of the art equipment. What is important is that they have the right equipment that is necessary to work your wedding. If it sounds great who cares if it’s last years speakers

Wedding Gig for Leah & Rick

Last weekend i worked a wedding for Leah and Rick. First wedding since last month’s wedding. I have been slowly trying to improve the image I project when i work weddings into a more professional one. So i created a new facade, built a new dj stand, and added some mood lighting just for the fun of it! I think it went pretty well.

Here’s the new DJ Facade from a side view:

and a shot of the new lights lighting up the ceiling center piece:

I like to call this “my stars”. I really looks like moving stars when you see it in person. It really sets the mood!
