Tips for Hiring a DJ for your Wedding
Hiring a DJ to play at your wedding is one of the most important decisions you will have to make when planning your wedding. Most wedding planners will tell you that of all the things that goes into pulling off a great wedding, Entertainment is one of the top 5 elements you must have. If you think about it, a great wedding reception really all boils down to Venue, Food, Drink, and Entertainment. If any of those 4 go wrong you could lose a significant portion of your guests at your wedding when they call it an early night. So picking a DJ is extremely important. I’m going to give you some tips.

1. Does the DJ your considering have a wide variety of music covering many genre’s? At your wedding you will have people of all ages and they all will have their own likes and dislikes when it comes to music.

2. Is the DJ your considering able to handle requests without disturbing the flow of the night? This is one of those things that can really make someone’s experience at your wedding feel memorable. They get their song in and it feels like it was always supposed to be there.

3. What kind of referrals does your DJ have? Do you know someone who has seem this DJ play before? If you have and they were great then you should have a good idea how your night is going to go.

4. Are they courteous and professional? Professionalism is key to having a great DJ. At your wedding you want someone who will be nice to all of your guests as well as professional enough that they won’t get carried away in the nights festivities. After all they are working for you they are NOT a guest at the wedding.

5. The DJ should be willing to meet with you in person to go over the plan for the night. This is key because it really gives you a chance to get to know your DJ and ask any questions you may have at that time.

6. Your DJ should be able to be as interactive with the crowd as you would like and also be able to customize his performance to suit your tastes for your big day. If you want to have a DJ that gets on the mic and tries to get the people moving then that’s what you should have. If you want a professional, low key DJ then that’s what you should have. What ever makes you happy should be what you should get. If don’t want your DJ to play the Chicken Dance or the Hokey Pokey because it makes you want to scream…then they shouldn’t play it.

7. Does your DJ have lights? If you want lights then make sure you know this and if it’s included or extra?

8. Does your DJ have wedding packages or do they book by the hour

9. How much does your DJ charge for overtime?

10. Make sure you have a contract! A signed contract is always a smart thing. That lets you and the DJ know that you are serious and expect him to show up on time on the day that he contractually agreed to show up.
